The Tuggeranong 55 Plus Club’s motto, ‘Be Active, Feel Great’, positively reflects the range of activities for Club members to stimulate the mind and keep the body active. The Club is open and inclusive to all seniors (over 50) in the community and encourages a positive focus on ageing.

Officially launched by the Chief Minister on 11 April 2008, the Tuggeranong 55 Plus Club was started as part of Communities@Work’s Community Development Program, which was funded by the ACT Government.  A need for such a Club was identified by the Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing and through local research into the needs of the growing numbers of seniors in the Tuggeranong area.

The initial Steering Committee was replaced in December 2009 when the Club adopted its own Constitution and elected its inaugural Management Committee.  In January 2010, the Club became an Incorporated Association and began the transition from being under the auspices of Communities@Work to functioning as an independent body.

In January 2012, the Club moved its activities to the newly built Tuggeranong Seniors Centre in Greenway located on the foreshore of Lake Tuggeranong and by 2013, it had become totally independent and self-managed.

The Club is run by volunteers from activity co-ordinators, admin staff and Management Committee and in 2020, has grown to become a 600 member strong community.  It runs over 40 member driven activities occupying not only the Seniors Centre but also the adjacent building, Gumnut Cottage (previously a childcare centre).

Having celebrated its first decade in 2018 and as Canberra’s population heads towards the retirement age, the Tuggeranong 55 Plus Club looks forward to continuing to provide, for many years to come, a variety of activities that assist our members in staying mentally and physically strong.
